Your guide

I'm Liam.
This is my approach.

I've been doing street photography for years, mostly across Asia. Dense markets, tight alleys, real people going about their day. That's where I work best, and Sri Lanka has all of these things.

Most photographers hesitate. They see the shot, wait too long, and it's gone. Or they stay on the edges shooting safe angles nobody cares about. They don't know how close to get, how to move through a busy scene, or what to do when someone looks back at the lens.

I'm not a photography teacher in the traditional sense. I'm not gonna lecture you on f-stops. I will take you into the thick of it and show you how I actually do street photography. You'll learn how I stay hidden, how to find frames within a busy city and how to interact with people when photographing them. You learn by shooting alongside me, not by watching from the sidelines.

Whether you've never shot street or you're looking to break through a plateau, one day with me in the right location will change the way you see.

What you'll actually learn

Not theory. Real street technique, from someone who does this every time they travel.

👁

How to read a scene

I'll show you how I spot a shot before it happens. The body language, the light, the geometry. You'll start seeing the street differently within the first hour.

🏃

How to move without disturbing

Getting close without making people tense is a skill. I'll teach you exactly how I position myself and when to commit to a frame.

📸

My full camera settings

Street photography requires fast, confident decisions on aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. No confusion. I'll set you up for the environment we're shooting in.

🎯

Finding the decisive moment

Timing is everything. I'll walk you through how I think about anticipation and what separates a near-miss from a great frame.

🗺

The right environments

We're going to the places where real life happens. Busy markets, local streets, spots away from the tourist trail. That's where the real photos are.

🔄

Live feedback on your shots

We review your best frames together during the day. I'll tell you exactly what's working and what to do differently. No fluff, just honest feedback.

How the day runs

A typical workshop day. Times flex based on light and where we end up, but this is the rhythm.

Early morning

Meet + quick briefing

We meet at your accommodation or a central point. I run through the plan for the day, cover your camera settings, and talk through what to expect in the market environment. 20 minutes max.

Morning

First market session

We go straight into it. I lead, you follow and shoot. I'll stop and point things out as they happen, showing you exactly what I'm seeing and why I'm moving the way I am. The goal is to get you out of your head and shooting on instinct.

Midday

Break + shot review

We stop for lunch and go through your best frames from the morning. I'll give you direct feedback on what's landing and what to focus on in the afternoon. This is usually where the biggest breakthroughs happen.

Afternoon

Second session. You lead.

Now it's your turn to drive. You pick where to stop, when to shoot. I stay close and give you real-time nudges. By this point most people are shooting in a completely different way than when we started.

Late afternoon

Golden hour + wrap

If the light cooperates we chase it. We wrap up with a final review of the day's strongest frames and I'll tell you exactly what to work on next.

Frequently asked questions

If something isn't answered here, just email me.

Not at all. I've taken people who had never shot street before and people who'd been doing it for years. The day adapts to wherever you are. If you're a beginner we focus on getting comfortable and building instinct. If you're more experienced we work on specifics: composition, timing, the details that push your work forward.
Any camera that you can change settings on: mirrorless, DSLR, even a capable phone. Street photography doesn't require expensive gear. I'll work with whatever you have. The smaller and lighter, the better for this kind of shooting.
Maximum 4 people including you. I keep it small on purpose. More than 4 and you stop being a photographer and start being a tour group. People notice, scenes change, and you get less time with me. Small groups mean I can actually watch what you're doing and give you feedback that matters.
Busy wholesale markets, fish markets, produce stalls, local streets. The kind of places where life actually happens. I'll tailor the locations based on where you're staying and what's active on the day. I'll let you know the plan the evening before.
I'm in Colombo June 19–22, 2026. Those are the only dates available. Email me with your preferred date and I'll confirm your spot.
Yes. €300 covers you whether you're alone or in a group of four. One-on-one means the entire day is focused on you, which some people prefer. Either way, just email me and we'll sort it out.
Life happens. If you need to cancel more than 48 hours in advance, I'll reschedule you or give you a full refund. Within 48 hours I may not be able to refund, but I'll always try to work something out. Just be upfront with me.
